How you can make a complaint or give us feedback on any area of our work.

We welcome your feedback, whether as a complaint or as a commendation. We use this information to improve how the Environment Agency works.

We want to hear from you to find out how you feel about the work we do. This helps us to understand your needs and cater for you in the best way possible.

Complaining to the ombudsman

What does an Ombudsman do?

The Ombudsman is completely independent of the Environment Agency and can carry out independent investigations into complaints that we’ve not acted properly or fairly, or if we’ve provided a poor service.  Their services are available to everyone and are free of charge.

The Ombudsman will expect you to have complained to us first, and given us the chance to deal with your complaint before you contact them.

England

In England, the Local Government Ombudsman can only look at complaints about flood defence and land drainage issues.

The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman can look at complaints about all other aspects of our work. If you live in England you can only make a complaint through your local Member of Parliament.

In Wales, the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales can look at all complaints about the Environment Agency. You can complain directly to them about any aspect of our work.
